This painting — by “Calvin and Hobbes” creator Bill Watterson — is the first new art from him that his syndicate has seen in the 16 subsequent years, say executives with Universal Uclick and its parent company, Andrews McMeel. The artwork is of the character Petey Otterloop from Richard Thompson’s comic strip “Cul de Sac.”
The artwork — “6-by-8” oil on board — is Watterson’s contribution to the Team Cul de Sac fundraising project for Parkinson’s research.
Team Cul de Sac — which works with Team Fox of the Michael J. Fox Foundation — is the brainchild of North Carolina-based web and print designer Chris Sparks. The project hopes to raise $250,000 for Parkinson’s research through such efforts as a Andres McMeel-published book of “Cul de Sac” art drawn by dozens of Thompson’s colleagues, including Watterson.
Thompson announced in the summer of 2009 that he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s.
I tend to not reblog things but how could I resist? Cul De Sac plus Bill Watterson coming out of the woodwork after 15 years. Holy Crap. If you haven’t read any Cul De Sac then you need to, and if you’ve never read more than a book full of Calvin than I suggest you go off yourself somewhere remote.
Possibly with a sign around your neck that reads: No sense of humor.
»Note to Clint/George, you might consider throwing an illustration towards Team Cul De Sac…
»In other news I finally put up another Clif Comic:

Bout time right?
Don’t hate. You don’t know.
The Lee Bros have been keeping busy settling into a new apartment, and myself into a new job. I guess I’ve been there about a month or so and am enjoying the ability to not think about some shitty authors book.(Authors: AKA: Stay-at-Home-Mom’s, Bored Old Ladies, and Old Men thinking they have something to contribute) It’s also nice to not have the religious front and to be able to not feel pent up about that aspect of my workplace. Julianne was here for a little bit and me and Chris were pretty stoked to have her around. Doesn’t happen enough. We were excited for her to go to school in Idaho when we were in Seattle then after we turned our tails and found ourself here we realized she was still going out there. We’re happy for her not being here but miss her too.
I’ve been delving into myself a little more which has been much needed and I know that change will be coming eventually. One can only grit his teeth so long in this windy state before he picks himself up and moves. This will require a lot of work on my part and will take some focus. I’m pretty sure the only way out of this place successfull is Grad School. Which I’ve wanted to do but I think I’ve not been ready mentally. Or maybe I’ve been distracted by other elements in my life to the point of not seeing the end-goal. One of my major issues is my wanting to do everything and not knowing how to do everything all at once. Been contemplating the serious side of my being and the lighter side and wondering how I can relay this to the world as the artist that I am.
The key is to work. It doesnt matter which direction it goes. It’s all me. But if I am not working it’s just me running my mouth, and people knowing I could do so much more.
So if you know me, and even if you don’t tell me to get my ass in gear. Motivation takes many forms. Maybe words from your mouth might help.
